Meet Ms. Beattie
Hello! I grew up in Olympia, in fact I attended Roosevelt Elementary and Garfield Elementary and then moved on the JMS and CHS. I come from a family of librarians and readers, but I didn’t learn to read until late 1st grade! After I overcame that hurdle you rarely found me without a book!
I graduated from Capital High School in 2003 and went on to get a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Western Oregon University (I spent four years reading about 25 books a quarter, it was the best experience!). After I graduated, I went straight to my Masters Program at Saint Martin’s University. I received my Masters in Teaching in 2009. Soon after, I was hired at Garfield teaching third grade. I have taught second through fifth grades at Garfield over the last seven years. Then my great friend Mrs. Gylys decided her heart was at home with her little girl and my dream job came open. I immediately enrolled back into college to work on my library credentials! This will be my first year in the library.
I have been married for six years to my lovely husband Andrew. We have one son, Sam,
who thinks our library lion is the best thing ever. Sam is two years old. If you spend any time in our library at all you will probably see Sam and my mom (do you remember Ms. Eileen our former librarian before Mrs. Gylys? That’s my mom!). Andrew and I also have a dog.
Charlie is six years old and he is a
cairn terrier/mini schnauzer mix. He loves to snuggle, do puzzles, and go for walks. He was named by a former Garfield
third grader and loves to walk by the playground (on a leash
with my mom) at recess.
Some of my interests include reading, spending time with friends and family, and traveling.
